In Leppard's essay he discusses "outsider" artists and how they should not be shunned by the world. He talks about how distinguishing between what is good art and what is bad art is somewhat bad. This all goes back to my previous posts about who has the right to distinguish whether it is considered "good" art or "bad" art. People are so opinionated that they have to have an opinion and voice it. But who gets to say this is the standard that we measure art with?

Ougibe discusses non western art and their struggle to make it in the art world. He talks about "the culture game" and how it is hard to criss cross from one culture to another. And although it is tough many people have done it in the past. He then talks about how some cultures are sheltered from society and other cultures. Yinika Shonibare's "Double Dutch" was thought of as breaking the cultural barriers. And is a good example of it.

Why is there this constant struggle with what is considered "good western art" and what is not?
What exactly is this "western art" they talk about?
Why is everything based upon it?
